Bryan Gunter Memorial
Thursday & Friday, August 18 & 19 @ Rock Harbor & Winchester CC
In their fifth trip to the Winchester-based tournament, the Wildcats were not only able to defend their team title, but reclaim their 36-hole tournament record which was originally set in 2008, but then broken in 2009 by Loudoun Valley.
Round 1 was held at Rock Harbor (par 72), which is a rather difficult stretch of holes characterized by some severe elevation changes, rolling greens, & not surprisingly, a number of very large rocks. Chris Song & Shaan Kololgi led the team by posting identical 1-over par 73s. Janice Kim recovered from a rough front 9 by making two birdies & one eagle on the back for a solid 76. Brett Green also grinded out two birdies on the back as well as some key one-putt pars for a 79. Brett's score was the last to be posted for the team & the score that kept the tournament record of 604 still in sight.
Leading by 23 strokes, round 2 was played at Winchester Country Club (par 72). With a much more classic design, WCC is a much tighter with faster greens. Jae Jun was the first Wildcat to post a score for the day. Her 2-over 74 turned out to be team's second-lowest score of the day. Chris was able to equal his round 1 score with a 1-over 73. Shaan & Janice both posted a 5-over 77.
The team's 301 on day 1 plus the 301 on day 2 equaled 602 & set a new tournament record. The 36-stroke win also resulted in the team's third Gunter title in four years. Three Wildcats finished with 36-hole totals that secured them 2nd, 3rd, & 4th-place in the individual category. Chris shot 146 (73-73); Shaan, 150 (73-77); & Janice, 153 (76-77). The 36-hole totals for the rest of the team didn't have them far out of the picture: Jae, 158 (84-74); Brett, 165 (79-86); & Marria Cho, 169 (88-81).

All the girls in the Northern Region were invited to the Oaks course Twin Lakes to participate in the annual Icebreaker outing. Girls competed in either the 18-hole flight or the 9-hole flight.

| Teeing off on the 10th hole, Katie Rouleau, Antoinette Roland, & Gabrielle Zlab competed in the 9-hole flight. Antoinette made a birdie on the long par-3 #15 & shot 46 & finished with the 2nd best score in her flight. Katie was able to finish her round without getting hit by a ball & carded a 68. | Chantilly Charger Challenge |
Tuesday, August 16 @ Virginia Oaks
After a frustrating day at International Country Club the day before playing in the Oakton Cougar Classic, the team looked to rebound with a better performance. Sadly, from the onset of the day, the course didn't look like it was going to cooperate. With the winds starting to pick-up & the green freshly aerated less than 24 hours before, a challenging day was ahead.
When play was complete, Chris Song had grinded his way to a tie for 2nd place with a 4-over par 76. After coming up on the short end due to a tie-breaker, he was awarded 3rd place. Shaan Kololgi finished his round in a tie for 8th placed with a 79. What makes Chris & Shaan's scores so impressive is that they were 2 of only 9 players in the field of 110 players to break 80. Plus, the average score on the day was 93, the highest was 138 (22 were 100+), & four players actually withdrew from the competition.
The team finished the day in 5th place with a overall score of 333. They were 11 shots back of team champion, Mountain View High School. Rounding out the card for the Wildcats was Janice Kim, Brett Green, & playing in his first event this season, Garrett Leavitt.
The team now heads to Winchester to defend both it's team & individual titles at the 24th Annual Bryan Gunter Memorial Golf Tournament at Rock Harbor Golf Club & Winchester Country Club on Thursday & Friday, August 18 & 19.

6th Annual SERVPRO Invitational
Wednesday & Thursday, August 11 & 12 @ Twin Lakes
While day 1 turned into a tale of two nines, day 2 was a solid performance from start to finish. The team bettered their 1st round tally by 16 strokes in the 2nd round & took home third-place honors. Janice Kim won the girls' title.
After one round of play, the team sat one shot out of 3rd place alone in 4th place with a score of 317. Leading the team was Chris Song & Shaan Kololgi, who both fired a 5-over par 76. Janice Kim was the next score on the board with an 80, followed by Brett Green with a 85. Freshman Jae Jun, playing in her first high school event, carded an 89.
After the final round was complete, the team sat alone in 3rd place, bettering their round 1 score of 317 by 16 strokes for a final tally of 618. Janice Kim won the individual girls' title with a 36-hole score of 155 (80-75). Chris Song led the team with a 36-hole score of 148 (+5), which was good for 7th place in the boys' flight.
Shaan Kololgi finished alone 10th place after posting a final round 75 (+3) for a 36-hole score of 151 (+8). Brett Green & Marria Cho both posted a 79 for the 4th & final score of the of the day. We've yet to tell them which one of their scores we used, but we will tell you it was the player who was using a white Titleist golf ball throughout the round.
